Fri, 24 Sep 2010, 10:00 am - 4:30 pm Event for Ministers

A masterclass for Interfaith Ministers only.

Facilitator: Rev. Prof. Stephen G Wright.

Organisers: Edinburgh International Centre for Spirituality and Peace and the Sacred Space Foundation.

Venue: Meeting Room, Quaker Meeting House, 7 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh

Date: Friday 24 September 2010.

Time: Registration: 9.30am-10am. Seminar: 10am-4.30pm.

Event Description: Interfaith ministers offering spiritual direction/counselling inevitably encounter people who feel that they are under the influence of or are being attacked by "evil". Is evil real?  Does it exist as a separate entity from good, as dark from light? How is it related to the shadow in the unconscious? What is the right response of the spiritual director when we work with people experiencing this particular aspect of spiritual crisis? What can help and heal and what can make things worse?

Stephen has been working for over 20 years with a charity (The Sacred Space Foundation - see www.sacredpace.org for more information) which among other things has specialised in the spiritual care of those in crisis. He brings a deep experience of this work to this masterclass. Many ministers and students have worked with Stephen before in Interfaith Classes so will be familiar with the richness of his teachings and the integration and practical involvement of all participants through ritual, song and dance that make these not just days of learning but also a joyful coming together and a deepening of relationship with the divine and fullness of spirit.

Sat, 25 Sep 2010 Event for Students

Financial abundance is only part of the equation of a happy life. But we acknowledge ourselves for realising that our relationship with money is an important component. If we don’t know how to prosper, we can’t support ourselves as therapists and healers – and we can’t help the rest of the world understand how to prosper either.

Cost: By donation to Interfaith Seminary Members. For others: £65

Contact: Maggy at maggy@maggywhitehouse.com  or Becky Jones on beckie.jones@yahoo.co.uk. To book your place: send £15 non-returnable deposit to Maggy at 49 Oxford Road, Moseley, Birmingham B13 9ER.

Sat, 25 Sep 2010, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm Event for the Public

A one day seminar for ministers and those who support them.

Facilitator: Rev. Prof. Stephen G Wright.

Organisers: Edinburgh International Centre for Spirituality and Peace and the Sacred Space Foundation.

Venue: Meeting Room, Quaker Meeting House, 7 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2JL.

Date: Saturday 25 September 2010.

Time: Registration: 9.30am-10am. Seminar: 10am-4.30pm.

Event Description: Ministers burn out. Ministers counsel people who burn out. Yet often little is known about this painful experience and how to handle it. Religious organisations have a poor track record in knowing how best to respond when the crisis arises. This seminar will explore what burnout is, how to stop it happening, how to help ourselves and others when it does. Burnout is always a spiritual crisis and requires spiritual solutions.

The content and processes of the day are for those who are ministers in/supporting those with burnout. The day is really about ministry and burnout and how to support ministers of all faiths, so it would, for example, also be suitable for lay helpers, occupational health nurses, counsellors etc. who support ministers.

Stephen has been working for over 20 years with a charity (The Sacred Space Foundation - see www.sacredpace.org for more information) which among other things has specialised in the spiritual care of those in burnout. He brings a deep experience and a richness of teaching of this work to this session which will be very experiential.

Places are limited; please make early contact to reserve your place.

Cost: £75.
