Description of Services Offered

I bring a Christian perspective to Interfaith Ministry having spent many years actively involved in charismatic evangelical churches and more recently those with a progressive, contemplative, or inter-spiritual focus. I see myself as a 'Christ Follower' who honours the Divine Presence (however named) in all people and all authentic spiritual traditions. As well as continuing to be nourished by an evolving 21st century understanding and experience of Christianity I also appreciate a wide range of teachings and traditions. I draw widely on contemporary spiritual teachers and would especially mention Eckhart Tolle, Andrew Cohen, Ken Wilber, Marcus Borg, Brian McClaren and Thomas Keating. In recent years my spirituality has increasingly taken on an integral evolutionary perspective. I seek to understanding human spiritual experience, development and transformation in the context of our participation in an unfolding evolutionary context. I am particularly interested in the relationship between science, medicine, health and spirituality.

My ministry has been enriched by this spiritual background and equips me especially to help people who may be in a 'post-evangelical' phase of Christian faith or who see themselves as 'spiritual but not religious'. I am able to offer spiritual guidance and counsel to those who find themselves in such a position.

I also draw upon my 32 years of medical experience as a doctor, having retired from General Practice in 2009. This has given me insight into the depth and range of human problems. I have an interest in health, well-being and healing which is expressed in ministry through counseling and healing prayer as well as general advice about health matters. I have taught'Spirituality, & Health' to medical students from the University of Liverpool.

I am particularly interested in the role of worship as a spiritual practice that can be a vehicle for insight, wisdom, devotion and surrender. I enjoy creating 'alternative' worship services that are creative, thought-provoking and multi-sensory. These may arise from the Christian tradition in a contemporary form or be an expression of universal worship, drawing upon the range of authentic traditions.

I am also a musician and able to play piano/keyboards and Indian harmonium in worship or other contexts, including accompanying worship though music or the creation of worship ambiance through improvisation.
