Samantha Radford

I am very proud of my Bristolian roots; I was born at the old Southmead Hospital, lived & worked locally in North Bristol for many years. I cared for my brother who had Downs Syndrome & learning disabilities alongside my young family and work for 18.5years, until the end of his life in 2019.

I have a long career in care, mostly working in services for adults with learning disabilities often with challenging, complex medical and physical support needs.

I followed this working as a Freelance Advocate for adults with care and support needs; varying from acquired brain injury, learning disability, parents in child care proceedings and those living with dementia.

For a number of years I worked with Bristol & South Glos carers support, supporting unpaid family carers to navigate health and social care, Integrated Care Boards and and to have a presence at council partnership boards to influence change.

Latterly I worked within this role at Southmead Hospital for 8 years as the Hospital Carer Liaison Worker, supporting unpaid carers to navigate treatment pathways for the person they cared for, liaise with health professionals and plan towards discharge pathways.

I am unsure when the seeds were sewn for this journey with Onespirit and Ministry. Many years ago on car journey to Wiltshire with a colleague, I recall sharing with her that ” i hope to be marrying people and holding funerals one day” I had no idea where that came from on that journey, I acknowledged it and trusted the source from where it came.

It percolated for quite a few years.

When my brother was dying I spent many hours with him each day, caring and chatting with him. I would often say “what I am going to do when your gone?” of course he wasn’t able to guide me or answer, but he listened and held me and offered me “to come up to heaven with him” …I would reply “I cant yet…”

Two years later I stepped into my ministry training which completely transformed my life, with it’s deep & rich enquiry into spiritual development & interfaith ministry training.

This involved a personal path of deep healing, a committed practice of inner growth, sacred practice, deep active listening, crafting ceremony, beautiful rituals, being at one with natures elements and meaningful exploration of many faiths.

I am often asked about my own faith, I was christened into the Church of England, as a younger woman I was part of the Baptist & United Reformed churches, and later when seeking my path joined the Spiritualist community. My heart has found it’s home amongst earth based spirituality.

I am deeply happy with Mother Earth, the great mystery, God, divine spirit and calling upon practices and rituals from other faiths to sustain my daily spirituality which includes mediation sangha’s, prayer, blessings, gratitude, mantras, and compassionate kindness.

I now live in Bath, serving the South West for the crafting & weaving of beautifully scripted life ceremonies, remembrance and funeral ceremonies beyond the eulogy.

If you would like to discuss how we  can work together, please do call or message me for a chat.

With love & many blessings ✨❤️✨❤️

  1. My name is Peter, I am a funeral director in Bristol. Recently I was approached by a family to look after their mother’s funeral arrangements. They had a specific requirement when it came to a choice of celebrant. They wanted someone who could combine elements of Christianity and Islam which reflected the beliefs of them as a family and their departed mother.

I approached Reverend Sam to see if she could assist in delivering this unique and bespoke service. I am happy to say that she did. Sam delivered a truly heart warming and personal service which paid tribute to the lady who had passed and the family she had left behind.

The feedback I got from the family was glowing. Not only did Sam deliver on what was asked of her but she also went above and beyond the call of duty by checking in with the family in her own time and out of normal office hours. This meant the world to them and truly helped them through the grieving process.

I can’t thank Sam enough for doing that. For me as a funeral director it is very important that I put my families in the hands of good people who will look after them and care for them through that difficult time.

For anyone reading this who is looking for a celebrant to take their loved one’s funeral service then Reverend Sam is the lady for you.

  2. Thank you so much, not just for yesterday, but for all your care and support through it all. Especially for the care and love you gave to Mum.

It was so lovely to know my Mum connected with you and found comfort in her time with you.

I will never find the right words to thank you enough, But please know, I and all the family are forever grateful.

It was a lovely ceremony and it was so nice to share our love for Mum, although very hard.

  4. Words are not enough to thank you for the love you showed me, my family and most importantly my mum , over the past 5 weeks.

Your smile yesterday during mum\’s celebration of life gave me the strength to say my words to mum and our friends and family who gathered. You made such a sad event, light, respectful and one where we could truly celebrate this wonderful woman. I do think humour is a true antidote to sadness.

For me the most poignant part was how you touched my mum\’s coffin as you sent her to our Maker.

My friends all commented what a beautiful service it was and key to this was that they felt it truly told the story of a remarkable woman who was touched and loved by everyone who knew her. Samantha – you enabled me and my siblings to do this. Peter finding you was the biggest blessing.

You truly are a wonderful human sent by the universe to heal.
