Honouring Essence and Diversity: Celebrating Women’s Day

As the dawn breaks on March 8th, we at OneSpirit Interfaith Foundation are filled with a profound sense of reverence. International Women’s Day isn’t just a date on the calendar; it’s a resonating call to celebrate the immeasurable contributions, strength, and spirit of women around the globe.

Today, we honour the tapestry of women who have shaped our past, those who are forging our present, and the young minds who boldly reach for our future. Women of all faiths, cultures, and walks of life — we see you, we appreciate you, and we are uplifted by the wisdom and love you share.

In a world that craves healing and unity, women have been the custodians of compassion and connection. The interfaith ministry embodies these qualities, driven by the heartfelt leadership and nurturing capabilities that many women bring to our community. Your voices, your actions, and your prayers carry the power to transcend boundaries and foster true inclusivity.

This International Women’s Day, we stand in solidarity with women globally. Let’s celebrate the victories and acknowledge the ongoing challenges. Let’s share stories of female leadership, courage, and love that inspire change and ignite the spirit of equality and justice.

To every woman in our OneSpirit community and beyond: you are the embodiment of divine grace and unwavering strength. May we all continue to support each other, not just today, but every day, as we strive for a world where every woman’s potential can be fulfilled.

On this auspicious day, we invite you to join us in reflecting, honouring, and advocating for women’s rights and their essential role in fostering a compassionate world. Happy International Women’s Day!

Let’s all commit to #EmbraceEquity because when we lift women, we lift humanity.

Phenomenal Woman, by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Demystifying Interfaith: Expanding the Sacred to Include Every Path

True listening isn’t about waiting our turn, it’s a loving gesture of presence. In interfaith spaces, listening deeply creates space for stories, identity, grief, joy. It’s not about understanding perfectly, but about saying, “I’m here with you,” and offering connection as an act of love.

Women’s History Month: Indigenous Women Leaders

Indigenous women have long been central to the spiritual and cultural life of their communities, yet their leadership has often been overlooked. From ancient traditions to contemporary movements, women are reclaiming spiritual authority and revitalising practices passed down through generations. In communities such as the Lakota and Haudenosaunee, women have historically held positions of spiritual leadership, and today, figures like Winona LaDuke and Tiana Ngata continue to lead efforts to preserve and strengthen Indigenous spiritual practices. As these women reclaim their rightful roles, they ensure that Indigenous spirituality remains a powerful force in today’s world.

Women’s History Month: Women in Spiritual Traditions

Women have played a crucial role in shaping spiritual traditions, from revered figures like Kuan Yin and Táhirih to trailblazing leaders such as Harriet Tubman and Phyllis Curott. Despite facing exclusion, women continue to reclaim leadership roles and push for gender equality within spiritual communities, ensuring traditions remain inclusive and vibrant. This Women’s History Month, we honour their resilience and lasting influence.
