Signing the Schedule

May 15, 2023

Signing the Schedule

You, the couple and the two witnesses all sign the Schedule in permanent, archive-quality black ink. A fountain pen is best; registrars are explicit on this point.

  • Guide each person to exactly where they need to sign.
  • Remind each member of the couple to sign using their name exactly as it is printed on the Schedule.

The Transcription Sheet

Most registration districts issue a sheet with the Schedule on which the couple and the witnesses print their names as signed, because signatures are often illegible in the register. NRS’s advice to OneSpirit is that the minister is responsible for making sure it is completed: fill it in yourself, or watch it done, and make sure it goes back with the Schedule. Practice varies by district (Highland’s sheet, for example, now carries a space for amendments on the reverse), so ask the registration office what it uses before your first ceremony there.
